Post subject:  Paplionanthe vandarum

Bought this during Brenda Oviatt's visit to the Long Island Orchid Society on a whim! Seems like so waif-like a plant with so little root matter in the pot, and so much surface area overall for my horribly dry conditions...but I bought it on a whim - and it wasted no time in rewarding me with a flower...and WHAT a FLOWER!!!! The thing is so clean scented too. Very floral, but without a hint of mustiness...Hope I can carry it through to the spring...Aiming for cold and dry, but without much luck on the cold part to this point...plant hasn't blinked an eye at my conditions yet. Not even a dried tip to any of the leaves! Sometimes you just have to buy something you like to see if it works!..(and accept the results if it doesn't!)
